Peace: Day 3
“You’re out!” “Holding…10 yard penalty…first down!” The sharp blast of a whistle and quick hand motions. We know all of these things are the work of an umpire or referee. In any sport there are rules and people who enforce those rules. Without them, it would be crazy! Can you imagine a football game where there were no penalties? Paul says the peace of Christ is to rule our hearts. The picture we should get is of an umpire or referee who only allows what is fair. Jesus’ peace acts like a referee. It gets rid of the things we think and do which do not fit with it. This takes place in our lives so that we live at peace with other believers. After all, Paul reminds us that we are called to live at peace as members of one body. If we do not each allow the peace of Christ to rule our hearts, we will fight with one another, creating pain and failing to bring glory to God. As members of the body of Christ, let us allow His peace to live in us and show us when we are wrong.
Prayer focus: Invite God to show you anything you have done that does not show Christ’s peace living in your heart. Thank God that He has called us into His family and that we can have peace with one another.
