our story
Harvest Lane Alliance Church began much as the denomination of which it is now a member, not as a church founded on purpose, but as a move of God which took on the form of a church over time. The genesis for this family of faith came in the fall of 1973 when 5 men attended a “Cursillo” retreat. For mutual accountability and to sustain growth in their faith, these men began to meet regularly outside of worship in their Catholic parish. Soon, other men were invited to join them as they sought to be fully devoted followers of Jesus, seeking the Kingdom of God in their everyday lives. Around this same time, these men came to understand and seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit and His gifts and empowering presence. By the fall of 1974, there were 6 families gathered weekly for the study of the Word of God and mutual support in the fresh expression of their faith. That gathering would form the core of the family of faith currently known as Harvest Lane Alliance Church.
Along the 50 year journey the church has seen many leaders, a number of forms, and had more than a few meeting places. The current location of the church, 5132 Harvest Lane is home to a multipurpose facility, built mostly by the members and completed in 1983. The church has had a profound impact on the youth of Toledo in its first half-century. In addition to being a place of encouraging commitment to and followership of Jesus in everyday life, the church has had two intentional and longstanding ministries to invest in the formation and development of youth; a school (1980-2009) and Boy Scout Troop 777 (1980-present). The church became an affiliate of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in 1998 and a full member church in 2012. In the intervening years, the church has sought to be a blessing to its neighborhood. In 2018, this desire led to support for the staff and students of the local elementary schools, which has grown into a partnership with McGregor Elementary. As a growing family of faith, this focus remains: to seek the Kingdom of God realized in everyday life.
