Love: Day 5

Romans 5:5-8

“I love you.” These three words are words we expect to hear from family and close friends, but would you expect anyone to say “I love you” to their enemy? God did just that for all of us. If God did not show His love to us while we were His enemies, there would be no hope of knowing His love at all. Sin makes us the enemies of God. We are powerless to keep ourselves from sinning. On our own, we can never be anything better than God’s enemies. Yet the love of God was demonstrated to us in that state. And how do we, the enemies of God, come to know His love? We enter into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. At the instant we begin this relationship, God sends His Holy Spirit to pour out His love into our hearts. This means that we not only know God’s forgiving love at the moment of salvation but that we can experience it moment by moment forever.  God is saying to you today, “I love you.”

Prayer focus: Ask God to be able to experience the Holy Spirit pouring His love in your heart today. Thank God for His amazing love that was shown to us in Jesus.
